Looking for a plate of spaghetti bolognese near Ginkakuji (Silver Pavilion) in Kyoto — and coming up empty? Most Italian restaurants in Kyoto focus on course menus, and places where you can just drop in for a single plate of pasta are surprisingly rare. Worse, most restaurants around the Silver Pavilion close by 17:00 or 18:00, leaving travellers without dinner.

Bello Vero in Kitashirakawa is a hidden-gem Italian restaurant built for exactly this moment. About 15 minutes on foot from Ginkakuji, 12 minutes from the northern end of the Philosopher's Path, just north of Kyoto University. Open 13:00–22:00, walk-ins welcome — a rare late-dinner option in this quiet corner of Northern Higashiyama.

Beef-Tendon Ragù — Our Signature Bolognese

Bello Vero's bolognese is built on a ragù of slow-braised beef tendon. The long-simmered tendon melts into the tomato sauce for a deeply flavoured bowl. Choose between spaghettini (thin spaghetti) or tagliolini — either way, the ragù clings beautifully to every strand.

Order a single plate of spaghetti bolognese, or open a bottle of wine to go with it — no pressure either way. À la carte, no set menu.

Why Authentic Italian Pasta is Rare near the Silver Pavilion

The Ginkakuji–Kitashirakawa area is a unique mix of tourist spots and local neighbourhood. Udon, ramen, soba, and cafés are well represented — but casual Italian restaurants where you can walk in for a plate of spaghetti have long been almost absent.

Course-only restaurants dominate, and the few that do serve pasta tend to close by early evening. Bello Vero opened in April 2026 to fill that gap. No set menus, fully à la carte. One pasta alone, or several dishes to share with a bottle of wine — both are equally welcome.

Lunch, Late Dinner, and Wine from 13:00 until 22:00

One of Bello Vero's draws is the full drinks menu available from opening. Enjoy your spaghetti with a bottle of wine (red, white, orange), Champagne by the glass, Peroni Italian beer, Campari, or a Mojito. Wine is served by the bottle only; Champagne is the sole exception, available by the glass.

Stop in after sightseeing at the Silver Pavilion for a late lunch, a glass of wine between temples, or a proper dinner when everywhere else has closed. Order a plate of pasta, take your time. That's what this place is for.
